The Hero of Bowerstone (Logan's mother, the former Queen of Albion)
The Hero of Brightwall (Logan's sister, the protagonist and current Queen)
The Crawler
Because it would be impossible for me to not mention Logan's parentage and sibling, I've decided to have both Heroes be female. If they are apped in the future, I will retcon everything. The Heroes' genders are selected by the player but don't change much story-wise. If there are any questions about this, I can answer them!
Personality: Once upon a time, Albion was ruled by a benevolent queen who united the land and kept the peace intact. Her son, Logan, took the throne after her and attempted to maintain the same sort of benevolent rule. But a threat even greater than the ones the Hero Queen had seen was facing Albion - and only the King himself knew.
Ultimately, Logan is a good person. This is very important because quite frankly, Logan makes a lot of dreadful decisions. Four years prior to the start of Fable III, Logan journeyed to Aurora with an group of soldiers. It was during his travels that he ran into the Crawler, a monstrous being that wanted to destroy Albion and spread its darkness. Logan was forced to watch as his soldiers were wiped out and tormented physically, mentally, and emotionally. Logan himself was saved by the Aurorans before the Crawler could kill him, and he returned to Albion after promising the Aurorans to bring an army to wipe out the Crawler and end its reign of terror over their people.
That one event changed Logan's life and outlook on it in an instant. He went from being a more ideallistic ruler who ultimately wanted to maintain peace and keep things as fair and balanced as possible (a very difficult job, and one he personally didn't find himself quite suited for) to a tyrant in a relatively short span of time. The darkness had touched him, and he knew just how terrifying it was. He needed to find a way to stop it, and fast. The best way to prepare against the incoming darkness was to build an unbeatable army, and in order to build up an army, he needed funds. Logan was quick to employ Reaver, who went on to form child labor laws in Bowerstone Industrial, for the sole purpose of raising money. It didn't matter who Logan had to hurt in order to make the money necessary to build up his army - the ends justify the means, and in this case, that meant the difference between total annihilation and salvation.
Let's back up for a moment. Logan obviously wasn't always a tyrant king who would go so far as to sacrifice his people's safety and happiness for money. Actions don't necessarily define a person, after all. They do speak louder than words, however, and words aren't something Logan offered a lot of in terms of just what he was doing. Possibly the biggest mistake Logan made was not telling anyone just what the seer Teresa had told him - the Crawler would attack Albion and destroy the nation, spreading darkness as it went. Why didn't Logan say anything? He figured the people would decide he was insane and would rebel. Yes, like reigning with an iron fist wouldn't result in that. Good job, Logan. Obviously, his decisions there aren't exactly the best. His decision-making skills aren't much better, but he is very decisive and once he's selected a course of action, he sticks to it despite whatever morals he might have. The ends justify the means. If he has to harm his nation to spare it, then so be it.
Logan does have strong morals and he does realize that what he's doing is terrible. He can understand why people would turn against him, and he understands the unrest within the kingdom. That doesn't mean he'll change his mind about the way he's doing things, however. Even when his own sister - his flesh and blood, the one person he genuinely seemed to care about - turned against him, Logan showed no signs of altering his course any. In fact, he did just the opposite. He forced his younger sister to choose between sacrificing a group of protestors or her childhood friend, simply because she spoke up against him. Granted, Logan was going to have the protestors killed anyway, but he was ultimately forcing his sister to make an incredibly tough decision. As he put it, it was time he "stopped treating her like a child." Logan executed whomever she chose and she retorted that she would never forgive him for this. That was just what Logan wanted; if she never forgave him, she'd never forget it either. Why would he be so cruel toward his own sister? Because Logan knew that someday she would be forced to make incredibly difficult decisions like this. She would one day rule Albion and she would come to understand just what he had to go through. But for the time being, she had turned against him, and Logan lashed out.
This is hardly the only time Logan lashes out, however. He has had protestors and "spies" killed in the past for opposing him. This was by no means necessary or profitable, but it did instill a sense of fear within Albion. Opposing Logan would lead to death. Captian Swift is an excellent example of this - Logan discovered that Swift was attempting to recruit people to his sister's cause; she had already turned Swift and his soldiers against him, so Logan lashed out. He had Swift executed in a public display that was hardly necessary, but done out of anger and irritation, hopefully to dissuade anyone else from opposing him. It didn't work and only made the rebels even more furious with him, but Logan wasn't thinking of it that way when he ordered Swift's execution.
Emotions are a bit of a strange thing with Logan. He never looks anything but mildly unhappy, even when things are actually going his way. He spends a good deal of his time in the War Room, overlooking a map of Albion. He talks to himself and makes plans out loud, never once showing any sort of emotion other than frustration. The position of king is obviously a very stressful one, and it's one he was more or less forced into due to his bloodline and position as the elder brother. His sister was far too young to rule when his mother died, and Logan accepted the throne as he was supposed to. That is a major problem Logan has - there are all sorts of expectations placed on him, and he has to live up to them regardless of whether he wants to or not. He is the King of Albion, his duty is to serve the people first and foremost. This results in some bizarre emotional behavior. Logan is expected to be calm at all times and deal with things with a level head. He isn't supposed to show fear. He is supposed to be a leader regardless of the circumstances. Logan doesn't mind the position - he doesn't believe he's the best suited for it, but what other options are there? - and he has adapted to it quite well. That means that no, he doesn't ever seem to be afraid or anything but calm, even when he's ordering executions or ordering his own sister to decide the fate of her friend and a group of protestors. In fact, it's rare to see Logan anything other than calm and collected. Teresa, the seer, shows Logan's sister an image of him ranting at the map in the War Room - this is the most riled up Logan gets, and he's talking to himself about the Crawler. Obviously this is the most pressing threat facing Albion - far more important than the economy, the state of affairs within his country, and even the suffering of its people. The ends justify the means.
It should go without saying that Logan does feel a lot of guilt for what he's doing to the country. He feels guilt for the soldiers he lost in battling the Crawler, and he feels guilt for betraying his promise to the Aurorans. He believes that he's a good person deep down, but ultimately stopping the Crawler is far more important that doing the "right" thing at the moment. "The ends justify the means" is more or less a personal mantra by now - he has to do what will benefit the country in the long run rather than in the short term. He has to keep the country alive, even if that means going down in history as the worst ruler. He will do whatever it takes to save Albion from the coming darkness. Does this make him selfless? Not necessarily; Logan does have a certain level of comfort that he expects and maintains - the castle is never affected by the poverty that plagues the rest of the country, after all - but he does not put himself before the country. Albion as a whole is more important than any individual, including its king. As such, the guilt Logan feels is locked away. It's something he can deal with later. Right now, it isn't important. What is important is saving the country. If being a dictator and ruling with an iron fist will ensure their survival then fine, he'll be the hated ruler of Albion. He has to do what is best for the country.
Strengths/Weaknesses: ✔ Logan is a strong leader. He has been placed in very difficult situations in the past and ultimately reacts decisively. His decisions definitely aren't the best, but he does tend to look out for the group rather than just the individual. While that may not be the best trait, Logan can make decisions very quickly and can take a leadership position very easily.
✔ Logan is skilled with a blade. While it's practically a requirement for all Heroes to be skilled with weaponry, Logan himself is not a Hero. He is descended from the Hero Queen, yes, but he doesn't display any of the capabilities for Will (magic) that most Heroes have. Still, he is more than capable of defending himself without his army. Naturally this won't prove very useful in Johto, but he does know how to defend himself if he needs to.
✔ He is used to putting the needs of others before his own. Logan doesn't have to put others above himself here in Johto, but he is not an inherently selfish person. He has a very strong sense of right and wrong, and now that he's not preparing to deal with the Crawler and the darkness it threatens to bring to Albion, he can focus on being a decent person. He will not throw himself heedlessly into situations, but he will stand up for the weaker person when he's capable of it. He won't stand for Team Rocket's antics at all, despite being placed in the organization. That said, he won't be incredibly eager to leave either, since the organization does offer him some protection for the time being. In other words, he'll have quite the moral issue here.
✔ Logan is a very dependable man. This can make him particularly easy to read, but he ultimately tends to stick to patterns and routines. As long as it won't conflict with the greater good, Logan will try to keep his promises. He isn't particularly skilled with friendship, but once he's promised something, you can assume he will get it done.
✔ He's very level-headed and skilled at formulating strategies. Logan does not enter a situation, regardless of how unimportant it might seem, without some plan of attack. This makes him both a skilled commander and an excellent leader. He is used to commanding armies, and as such, ordering Pokémon about will be very easy.
✘ Logan doesn't display much in the way of emotion. It's quite difficult to tell exactly what he's feeling unless he says it. He doesn't usually bother saying it, so good luck figuring out just what emotion he's feeling. Unless it's irritation, that one's pretty obvious. Let's not forget that Logan is pretty emotionally stupid; he bottles his feelings to the point of not recognizing some of them. Genuine affection for someone who isn't his sister? What's that? He doesn't know how to express emotions like that and tends to ignore them. He doesn't need them to rule, after all.
✘ Empathy is a bit of an odd thing with Logan. He certainly is capable of feeling it toward the guards who were killed, and it's obvious that he does feel guilty about some of the actions he's taken. He's relieved to have command taken off his shoulders, after all. Logan isn't quite as empathetic as a normal person which does make it easier for him to order executions without feeling as guilty. This makes it particularly difficult for him to form lasting relationships, however. Not that he really minds, he's not a very social creature to begin with.
✘ He doesn't know the first thing about displaying affection. Logan does feel affection, of course, but it tends to be horribly stunted and he's never really sure what to do with it. The only person he genuinely cares about in Fable is his own sister, and she turned against him. He's rather paranoid about that, even from his Pokémon. Hopefully he doesn't need to get a happiness evolution out of any of them.
✘ Obviously Logan makes terrible decisions. While he's good at making decisions quickly and he doesn't regret them, he does tend to pick the worst decision possible and roll with it. This will hopefully be lessened now that he's no longer in a position of power and can't screw over all of Johto in an attempt to save it, but you know. He'll probably end up stuck in a cave at some point because he spent all his money on Potions instead of buying an Escape Rope or two. Hopefully there aren't any Ghost-types in there that like to play mind-games...
✘ Logan is deathly afraid of the Crawler. It has had a massive impact on his life to the point of giving him reoccuring nightmares and terrifying him even during the day. He carries a lot of guilt because of it, and thanks to its mind-games he has difficulty separating fantasy from reality when it comes to just what happened the day he met it. Did his soldiers all hate him for bring them into this mess? Did they wish he had died instead of them? He doesn't know. He has no way of knowing. That terrifies him. As such, he really doesn't like the dark or caves, both of which can be found throughout Johto. Oh, and he really won't like Ghost-type Pokémon either.
✘ Logan's "the ends justify the means" mentality really doesn't help him out. It didn't help him in Albion, and it won't help him here either. Hopefully he won't get it in his head that hurting people will ultimately help Johto or anytihng like that.
✘ Unsurprisingly, the stress of ruling has rendered Logan incapable of relaxing. He doesn't know what to do with free time or a lack of very clear-cut duties. He's used to ruling and micromanaging every aspect of the nation he can. It's going to take him quite some time to adjust to the lack of duties (and power) he has in Johto.
✘ Due to his position as royalty, Logan is used to living in wealth. While the rest of Albion suffered with the failing economy, the nobles were mostly unaffected. Logan isn't used to having to provide for himself or deal with a lack of funds, both of which he will certainly end up facing in Johto.
✘ Because he is nobility, Logan has grown up believing that everyone else is lesser than he is. While ultimately he does see his life to be equal to that of his people, he does tend to look down on everyone else for their lack of noble blood. Though he doesn't brag about his mother the Hero Queen very often, he does see himself as being better than most people for having her blood in his veins. It doesn't matter that he's not a Hero, he's descended from one!
✘ Logan's temper is worth mentioning. He lashes out in nearly ridiculous ways in Albion, and that's certainly going to be the case in Johto. He may not have the means to make someone choose between killing their best friend or a group of protestors, but he can certainly find other ways to make your life hell.
✘ Logan doesn't take very good care of himself; he tends to worry about things constantly to the point of stressing himself out. He doesn't seem to have a very good grasp on just what his limits are, and tends to push those without any regards to just what will happen to him because of it. You'd think he would have learned that a country can't run itself very well without a leader. Oh well. He's definitely prone to overworking himself, which will most likely happen in Johto as well.
✘ It comes with the territory and should go without saying: Logan is very proud. He's proud of Albion moreso than himself and his capabilities, but insult him and you'll wish you hadn't crossed him. At least he can't have you executed in Johto!

First Person Sample: [The feed clicks on, revealling a simple hotel room. It's currently pointed a bit too low, focusing on Logan's knees rather than his face, and after a moment the camera man fixes it to focus on him. Logan isn't focused on the camera though, he's pacing back and forth, talking out loud. The feed starts in the middle of his speech, but it should be fairly obvious what he's talking about.]
...no way to return home that I can see. There must be something I'm overlooking. Obtaining eight Badges will take far too long...
[There's a chirp of "Snivy!" from behind the camera - apparently Logan's starter Pokémon has figured out how to operate the Gear. He turns to look at it, eyes widening a fraction in surprise before he controls his expression properly.]
Ah. Please let me know before you turn that on, Snivy.
[The Pokémon doesn't seem to care about that, repeating its name a few more times in an effort to get its trainer to speak up again. The message seems to get across.]
If I understand correctly, there are those of you who have been here in Johto for quite some time. I can't afford to spend any time here; I have duties to return to back home.
[If by "duties" he means "being put on trial and possibly executed for his crimes" then yes, he really does have to return.]
I would appreciate any information anyone can offer on this world and how I arrived here. Better yet, I would appreciate information on how to return home. I've heard of the rumor regarding the Gym Badges, but I don't have time to waste...!
[He pauses, raising a finger to the bridge of his nose and rubbing at it, eyes diverted. There's no need to get upset. If anyone here has information, they'll most likely part with it for a fee, right? He can at least offer that.]
I don't have very much in the way of gold, but I can reward anyone with any useful information. Thank you very much for your time.
[He motions for Snivy to end the feed with a flick of his hand. The Pokémon fumbles with the Gear for a moment while Logan goes back to musing aloud.]
...There has to be some quicker way to return home...
[Finally the feed clicks off.]
Third Person Sample: It would be a lie to say Logan had never experienced hardship in his life. The two scars marring his lip were enough to dissuade one from believing that. It would also be a lie to assume Logan had always experienced hardship - the way his clothes were perfectly pressed and cared for despite days of travel should have spoken volumes to anyone who happened to see him strolling through Violet City. The former King of Albion had indeed experienced difficulties in life, but he knew nothing of the suffering his people had been forced to see on a daily basis. He was safe from all that tucked within the castle's high walls. He hadn't wanted to see just how much they suffered.
Things were different here. The creature that followed him was merely one indication of that. This world - Johto - was not Albion. There were no soldiers here, no starving people begging for gold on the streets, no posters defaced and rebellions brewing. From what he had seen, Johto didn't even have a monarch to lead it. It was peaceful here; something Logan hadn't realized just how much he missed back home. Albion was falling into disarray, but what was he supposed to do? To try to fix things now would spell disaster for them in the future.
At least, it would have. He supposed it was out of his hands now; his younger sister had taken the throne. She was a Hero, she was a fighter, and above all else, she was capable of stopping the incoming darkness. He was sure of it.
Johto had been nice to him so far. The creatures he encountered were easily dispatched by the one he had and the "trainers" he fought were mostly children who posed no real threat. Even without his sword or his soldiers he was in no danger. It was a welcome relief after so much bloodshed. But that didn't prepare him at all for Union Cave. It had looked like a very small cave on the map, an obstacle that he could see no reaon to avoid. It was a cave, no big deal. He'd get through it in a couple of days and never have to return. He needed to obtain the badge from Azalea Town, otherwise he would have simply headed straight for Goldenrod City. He wasn't worried.
And he wasn't worried when he entered the cave either. He wasn't worried when night fell, and he wasn't even worried when he drifted off to sleep. It was waking up to that thing that frightened him; it earned a scream, and Logan staggered upright, searching for flint, for his sword, for something to protect him from that hideous monster. It was back, it was going to finish the job it had started four years ago--
"Snivy!"
The cry from the creature startled Logan out of his thoughts and he stared down at it. The little monster stood between him and that horrible thing, tiny green arms outstretched and vines rising from its back. It didn't look particularly threatening, but the monster drew back. It's going to attack. We're both going to die. Logan raised a hand to his eyes; he couldn't watch. Not again. He couldn't watch another soldier fall to spare his life again...
That was when the creature - Snivy - sent both vines at the creature, slamming it back into the wall of the cave, knocking it out in one hit. The vines returned to Snivy's back and he posed proudly, turning to his terrified trainer with a victorious cry. Logan stared blankly for a moment before reaching out to tenatively pet the creature on the head. It had saved him from certain death. This tiny little thing had stood up to the monstrosity that had haunted Logan's nightmares for years. It had defeated the terror that was sure to drown Albion in darkness. He had underestimated its power.
The next day he would realize that it wasn't the monster that had attacked him near Aurora, but rather another one of these creatures. Onix was the name of this particular species, and in the dark of night they did look a bit like the nightmarish creature he had encountered years ago. He should have known it wasn't the same thing. It couldn't have followed him here, after all.
...Right?

It couldn't have followed him here, after all.
...Right?
